Black Knight Evolution, blazoned by Light & Wonder, drags a long-running arcade knight into a neon circuit-board future, where the ways count breathes in and out and a gold knight's-head shield stands guard. I ran my own demo at a $1.00 bet; the shot below is from that session.

The chronicle · entry 39699

Black Knight Evolution, read closely

01The chronicle opens

ntered into the roll on 27 February 2025, Black Knight Evolution is a five-reel pokie from Light & Wonder — a modern re-forging of the studio's veteran Black Knight escutcheon, now dressed in circuitry and cold blue light.

This is a Mighty Ways build: my run opened on 243 ways, with a banner promising the reels may randomly expand on any spin. The pool lists a multiway ceiling of over 1,024 ways, so the grid can swell well beyond where it starts.

02Theme and atmosphere

The charge is a helmeted black knight glaring out from the top of the reels, set against a humming purple circuit board — the 'evolution' of the title is the old fantasy knight rebooted as something half-machine.

The paying charges are a curious mix: glowing card-suit gems in red, blue, purple and pink for the lows, a green flanged mace and a banded golden orb for the highs. It is loud and electric where the older game was gothic, and it will divide players who loved the original's darker mood.

03How the game is played

Wins muster left to right on the Mighty Ways pattern, so any matching charges on adjacent reels can pay regardless of row. My bet sat at $1.00 a spin on a demo balance of $1,000.

The gold knight's-head shield is the standout charge, landing framed on the middle reel in my run. A Gamble toggle (switched off in my session) offers a double-or-nothing on wins, and a Premium Play switch to the left points to an enhanced, higher-cost bet mode.

04Bonus features

The engine here is the expanding grid: 'reels may randomly expand on any spin', pushing the ways count upward toward that four-figure ceiling and, with it, the number of ways to connect a win. The pool also lists free spins, a reelset-changing mechanic and a bonus bet.

I should be straight with you: my demo run stayed in the base game and did not trigger the free spins, so I cannot describe that round first-hand. What I can vouch for is the ways-expansion tease, which fired the banner repeatedly without lifting me to a full 1,024.

05RTP, volatility and max win

The pool lists the return at 94% and flags an RTP range — meaning an operator may run a lower or higher configuration, so it is worth checking the in-game info panel. That base figure is on the lean side.

The pool does not publish a volatility rating or a maximum win for this title, so I will not invent either — treat the ceiling as unknown until the in-game info panel states it. On feel, the expanding ways suggest a game chasing bigger, less frequent hits.

06Who it suits

This suits players who like the Mighty Ways format and do not mind a bright, techy reskin of a classic — the expanding grid gives every spin a small jolt of anticipation, and the optional Gamble adds a risk lever for those who want it.

If you loved the brooding original Black Knight, the neon makeover may feel like a step too far. Whatever you choose, set a limit before you start and treat it as entertainment — if the pokies stop being fun, take a spell. 07In short

A competent Mighty Ways refit of a famous knight, let down a little by a thin published spec — no stated max win, a lean 94% base return, and a look that trades atmosphere for neon.

An optional Gamble (Double) feature offers a risk play on wins; it was toggled off in my session.

A Premium Play switch points to an enhanced, higher-cost bet mode; check the in-game info panel for its exact effect.

I did not open the in-game pay panel and no win amounts landed during my demo run, so every per-symbol value here is entered after the session — none were readable from the screen. The pool does not publish a maximum win, so I have left the top prize unstated.
