Dragon Knight — the chronicle

Barbara Bang ·Volatility — ·RTP 96%

Dragon Knight from Barbara Bang is a dark-fantasy pokie of steel and dragonfire — a five-reel, four-row battlefield where an armoured knight faces a red dragon across the reels. The pool records a 96% RTP, but leaves volatility and maximum win blank, so parts of this chronicle are honestly incomplete. The shots below are my own demo run at a 1.00 bet.

Dragon Knight, read closely

011. First muster

he blazon is handsome: a rune-carved stone frame, a silver knight standing guard on the left, a red dragon coiled on the right, and charges cut from carved metal — shields, gauntlets, swords and helms. It's a moodier, more serious take on the knight theme than the comic pokies elsewhere on the roll.

The art carries it. Whether the maths matches is harder to say, because the pool leaves two of the key numbers unrecorded.

022. What the pool roll records — and what it doesn't

The facts I can stand behind: provider Barbara Bang, RTP 96%, released 22 September 2023. That's a fair, on-the-mark return figure.

What the roll does NOT record: the volatility rating and the maximum win are both blank. I won't invent them. Treat those as unknowns going in — the chronicle would rather admit a gap than fill it with a guess.

033. The charges on the reels

Top of the muster is the red dragon wild, who expanded down a full reel in my run stamped WILD. Below it burns the flaming helm — the feature charge — then the crimson gemmed shield, the green-glowing gauntlet and the blue rune-sword as premiums. Carved A-Q-K-J royals fill the lower quarters.

No symbol-pay table surfaced during my session, so every bounty in the table below is entered after the session. I'd rather leave the column honest than blazon a number I couldn't read.

044. The features

The feature list from the pool is generous: a hold-and-win, respins, a multiplier, a bonus game, free spins with additional free spins on offer, plus scatters and the expanding dragon wild.

In my run the dragon wild expanding across a reel was the clear highlight — it set the reels spinning with the shields lit pink for a collect-style moment. I couldn't confirm the hold-and-win coin values or the bonus payouts from the demo, so I'll flag those as seen-but-not-measured.

055. How the demo session felt

Weighty and atmospheric. The carved symbols and the dragon animation give it presence, and the shield-collect moment felt like the game's signature beat. Without a legible pay table or a max-win figure, though, I can't tell you how hard it hits at the top end.

Take this as a look-and-feel report rather than a full audit of the maths — the numbers simply weren't all there to read.

066. Who it suits

For players drawn to dark-fantasy art and a feature-rich sheet who don't mind a bit of mystery about the ceiling. The 96% RTP is a genuine plus over much of my roll.

If you need the max win and volatility spelled out before you commit, wait until those are published. Whatever you spin, keep it 18+, set a limit and stop when it stops being fun. NZ support: safergambling.org.nz and the Gambling Helpline on 0800 654 655.

077. The chronicler's blazon

Striking art and a fair 96% RTP, marked down only because the pool leaves volatility and max win blank and no pay table surfaced in my run. A promising knight with an incomplete coat of arms.

Enter it on the roll with a note in the margin: handsome, feature-rich, but not yet fully blazoned.

Rules of the game

Grid

Five reels and four rows of carved-metal charges, played at a 1.00 demo bet in my run.

Dragon wild

The red dragon is wild and expands to fill a reel — it stamped WILD down a full reel in my session.

Hold and win & bonus

The pool lists a hold-and-win, respins and a bonus game. I saw the collect-style moment but couldn't read the coin or bonus values in the demo.

Free spins & multiplier

Free spins with additional free spins and a multiplier are listed among the features, triggered via scatter symbols.

How the chronicler rides it

The chronicler has ridden this knight. The plates below are frames from that session — our own screen, nothing borrowed.

Base gameDragon Knight — Base game
The battlefield muster: carved royals and gauntlets on a rune-stone frame, the silver knight and red dragon flanking the reels.
WinDragon Knight — Win
The gemmed shields light up pink across the right reels — the game's signature collect-style beat.
FeatureDragon Knight — Feature
The red dragon expands down reel two stamped WILD as the surrounding reels blur into a feature spin.

Captured in our own session. Where a round has not been reached yet, the codex shows an honest blank rather than a borrowed picture.

Summa

The verdict

In its favour

  • A fair 96% RTP on the mark
  • Strong dark-fantasy art and an expanding dragon wild
  • Generous feature sheet: hold-and-win, respins, free spins, multiplier

Against it

  • Pool records no maximum win — a genuine unknown
  • Volatility unrated
  • No readable pay table surfaced in the demo

of 10

Handsome dark-fantasy work from Barbara Bang with a fair 96% RTP and a good feature list, but held back by a blank max win, unrated volatility and no legible pay table. Promising, but not yet fully blazoned.
