01The chronicle opens

Entered into the roll on 25 February 2020, Micro Knights is a seven-reel, seven-row cascading pokie from ELK Studios, the Swedish house known for building slots with more moving parts than most. This one is dressed as a storybook battlefield seen from above.

It abandons paylines entirely. Symbols land on a big 7×7 board, matches clear, and new symbols avalanche down — a cluster-and-cascade engine rather than the medieval reel-spinner the name might suggest.

02Theme and atmosphere

The charge is a whimsical siege: a moustachioed knight guards the board from the left, catapult-firing marshals sit at the corners, and a purple dragon coils around a little white tower at the bottom. The symbols are archery targets, meat, mushrooms, wells, rabbits, frogs and a golden crown.

A tall coloured meter runs up the right edge under a 'Flag Release' banner — the energy-collection gauge that drives the features. It is bright, busy and charming, closer to a mobile puzzle game than a solemn medieval chronicle.

03How the game is played

Wins form as clusters on the board and then cascade. In my run at a €1.00 bet the pays came in small and often — €1.80 on one busy cascade, then a scatter of €0.40 and €0.30 hits as symbols cleared and refilled.

The little numbered tokens along the bottom of the board are the muster of catapult knights charging the meter; each match feeds the 'Flag Release' gauge on the right toward the feature.
